With "image" being everything these days or so it seems, the home hair market has increased with more men as well as women covering the natural loss of pigment in their hair. For some, of course, going grey can happen prematurely. Both men and women can begin getting grey hairs in their teens and be completely grey before they are 40. However it is not acceptable for many to allow this natural course to take place. It can affect job prospects although it tends to be more acceptable in men than women.

Men are being targeted more these days to cover their grey hair. Many dark haired males begin to get the odd grey hair at about 30 (roughly about the same time as women with dark hair). Their products are a little different. Time for one thing. Just For Men (photo left) can be applied in just 5 minutes. Obviously the manufacturer figures that it is unlikely a man will put up with the 20 or so minutes it takes for a woman's color to work. While there are some quicker versions on the market - taking just ten minutes they obviously have to be a little stronger and harsher because of it. Men's hair being generally denser and coarser than a woman's allows for the stronger chemicals to be used. Although some men do have sensitive scalps their skin is generally more tolerant too. For those in high powered jobs looking distinguised doesn't always work. Advertising and marketing are the core examples as they are seen as young and energetic occupations.

For women there are other criteria. Taking care of their hair, having it look natural are some of the concerns for those just wanting to cover the grey. Products like Garnier Nutrisse Cream seen right is ideal for that. Others have had fun with color for a long time and may not actually want their hair to look natural so there are products on the market for a more vibrant and patently unnatural look. Although a few models have tried to bring back the grey making women feel they can go natural very few have the confidence to allow that to happen. The view that a grey haired person is older is very much on the forefront of many people. Yes even Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez have been caught "in between" treatments and have shown their grey hair. The press pulled them apart for it. So it is only natural that those not in the public eye feel they may be judged in the same way. With so much advertising even new products to "touch up" grey in between salon treatments (for those who don't usually do it themselves) the pressure is always there. How many men or women on TV can you see clearly in their 40s or above who have grey hair? Basically if it makes you feel better why not? As long as you choose a colour that is a good match and remember to keep it as natural as possible going a shade lighter as you get older then go for it. You definitely won't be alone!
