HOROSCOPES

TO HAVE OR HAVE NOT?

We've all read the promotional hype associated with beauty products. Words like "revolutionary" "breakthrough" and the famous "makes you look years younger". Oh yes that last one is a humdinger don't you think. How do you know what is true and what is just hype? It isn't easy. There is no doubt that a good diet and plenty of water is essential for your skin and to keep you looking good. Stress, lack of sleep and illness can have its affects on the skin. We all know that too much sun and no protection is bad for us as well as sun-beds. A tan on the body is good for us but as we age maybe not so much on the face.

So what about all those wonderful and expensive creams that will help you "defy gravity" "look fresh and youthful". We've said it before and will say it again. Most face creams cannot sink much beyond the first layer of the skin and many just smooth the outer layer and do nothing beyond that. This can be enough for the most part of making the skin look good for a few hours. There are some "tricks" which work for special occasions that basically are like a mask that tightens on the skin and which you put make-up over but the problem is if you want to talk then it could be a problem because you might crack it!

Oh yes of course there is plastic surgery and botox for those that can afford it and really the only way to avoid sagging is to have a bit of a "nip & tuck. We can make our skins look good for our age (whatever that may be) but it is rare to look more than 5 years younger. Problem skin like acne can be the result of too much sebum and hormones. Look at what you eat. Some people are allergic to certain foods or consume too much of a certain food type and they will break out. Do not strip the skin of moisture in order to "dry out" the blemishes. Look at the ingredients - does it contain alcohol? Try something with eucalyptus in it which is a natural cleanser. Witch hazel is also an astringent so there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Star promotions are not necessarily any measure of how good or bad a product is. Remember that photos can be airbrushed and lighting is everything when they are filmed - we should know. We could make someone look very good or very bad depending on make-up and lighting. Even jawlines can look firmer. Do you need to spend $150 on a tub of face cream - absolutely not but if it make you feel better then maybe you need to. Feeling good about yourself is part of the whole process. Some actors have good skin and some don't. They have to watch their diet and of course they get a lot of help looking good. They also don't have to pay for a lot of the products they promote. Do they use the product - yes most of the time they do. Exclusively - perhaps not.unless they are under contract to do so but they also don't have to buy it in that case.

So how do you choose what is right for you? Whether it is skincare or make-up choose products in your price range. Be careful of product with Parabens and try to avoid. We have recommended here in these pages what we think works for us. Some product goes a long way so is worth the extra initial price because it lasts as long or longer than two of the cheaper product. In the end if it makes you feel good and you think it works then it is right for you. We all are individual in our skin and what works for a friend may not for you so unfortunately the choice has to be yours!
