Make-up artists choose products from a wide variety of sources. They look for product that will give them the look they want to achieve for a particular project. We thought we would let you know some of the products and brands we use on a regular basis and which our cast and crew also love to use on a personal basis too! If you have sensitive skin always do a patch test first although most of the products we use are generally safe to use for all skin types.
Ask many women what product they cannot do without and often the reply will be lipstick. Both of our featured actors Lisa Sowden and Taneal Cutting have fallen in love with LORAC lip products. The photo on the left is of the Mocktail lip gloss range which they both use. The range also includes lipsticks and lip plumping glosses too. The colours are great and very wearable. Nicole Kidman has used Lorac products on the red carpet and they are for the mora natural enhancing look rather than that full make-up style.
If there are two brands synomous with professional make-up then it must be MAC Cosmetics and Smashbox Studio. All our actors and models use MAC especially the Studio FX foundations and concealers. Smashbox started as a runway brand for models and does tend towards more intense colour pigments. Certainly if you want a foundation that matches not only your skin colour but also the texture then visit your local MAC counter as they are bound to have just the right one for you. Something that Smashbox is famous for is their eye liner and brow-tech systems. Not only do they have brilliant colours to choose from but they are long lasting.
Okay one thing that all professional make-up artists use are brushes. You may be used to getting sponge applicators with your eye shadows so you will find that most of these professional products don't come with an applicator. Both these brands are more widely found on the market now, especially since MAC (originally a Toronto company) was bought by Estee Lauder. Always remember a little goes a long way with most of these professional products so if you are used to over-applying then cut back or you may find the result a little too intense.
